Alexander Norton loathes the festive season. The revelry of the ton is a reminder of Christmas four years ago, when his first love, Thomas Bennett, broke his heart and fled to New York without a word. So when he encounters Thomas at a holiday ball, Alexander is determined not to let on how much he still hurts.
Thomas has returned for one reason only Alexander. Having finally come to terms with his forbidden desires, he will do whatever he must to convince Alexander to give their love another chance. But instead of the happy, carefree man Thomas once knew, Alexander is now hard and cynical. Saddened to know he's to blame for the man's bitterness, Thomas resolves to reignite the passion he knows lies hidden behind the wall of disdain...

I considered giving 2 stars but decided on 3 because the first half (literally first 55%) had me glued. I am a stickler for these types of plots. I reached the part where Thomas enters Sasha's bedchamber and their roles completely reversed. It killed the passion of the characters. Before I read anymore, I simply stopped reading and will not continue. I do not understand why the majority of authors feel the necessity to switch roles between characters as if there is any shame being strict bottom or strict top. It seems there must always be at least one scene where the roles are reversed. Versatile roles are perfectly OK and are pretty awesome. I love them. But when it is sudden or just once, it feels forced or as if the author is trying hard to prove something. Sasha was the feminine role player and Thomas was obviously the masculine role. The author made no doubt about this. Again, versatile roles are absolutely wonderful, but as a reader, I'm buying a book based on what the sample and first few chapters have lead me to believe about the entirely of the book. Consistency is key and there is nothing wrong with good old fashioned cliches.Product details

My True Love Gave to Me edition by Ava March Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A sort of prequel to the Brook Street series by Ava March (that came out later), this book is much shorter than the rest, but it's a wonderful story. Having read the other three books I saw these two men in each one and wondered how they got together. Now I know.
There story is heartbreaking, but it's romantic at the same time. March starts with them at the young age of 19, and how they love each other yet Thomas fears being with Alexander, or Sasha as he calls him, and so he runs. Four years later he comes back to him to prove that he is sorry and they belong together.
I loved the characterization and the details of their emotions. It was beautifully written like the other three books. Even the smallest detail is mentioned, bringing about a beautiful world that readers can envision. You don't need to read this book first necessarily, but if you have read the other three books, this one is definitely a must read. My only wish is that the book was longer.
This book is the preview book to the BOND STREET SERIES even though you do not need to read it ti read the other books you really should.. This book is wonderful; it is just a great story of love and heart break without the extant and unneeded sap. The sex is great and the story is told in just the right leanght.. contests to the writer.
This outstanding story between Alexander and Thomas was just another magnificent example of Ava March's writing style. She gave us so much information about the relationship between them and made me feel both of their pain. I'm so glad that they found each other in this enchanting sexy short story, I just wonder how their story ended. I highly recommend this book!!!
I agree with the reviewer (Lily) before me but I also wanted more... the story is in two halves (when they were 19 and then four years later). I would have liked the story to begin when h/h were just friends - before they got together... I wanted to see that first kiss and how their relationship developed before Thomas left Alexander. The second half which is four years later is nicely done but one more chapter or epilogue would have been great. Overall though I thought it was a sweet novella!
Here is a story that is written as a period piece. Not being well versed in the grammar of the time, it was difficult to follow for me. Plus, I had a problem keeping up with what was happening. I eventually gave up and never finished this one. Sorry, but this was not for me.
Sometimes reading romance novels and shorts is tough for me, because even though you know there will be a happy ending, the characters have to do something first to royally screw things up.
In this case, Thomas takes the cowards way out when he and Sasha (his pet name for Alexander) were teenagers and almost (but not quite) lovers, by fleeing the country.
I am glad that Sasha didn't just welcome him back with open arms and makes Thomas first prove himself and that he has no intention of leaving again. I think that both characters needed time to grow up a bit anyway and there is nothing like a broken heart to help you grow. This series is off to a good start.
A beautifully constructed (and written) romance that takes place in the Regency period of English history (1820s). It features a stormy and sometimes heart breaking romance between two 23-year-old well-positioned young men, Alexander (Sasha) Norton, who fell in love with Thomas Bennett four years previously when they were at Oxford, and initiated Thomas into what was seemingly a searing romance at the time.
Thomas, however, panics at exactly the wrong time, and disappears from Sasha's life for four years. What happens next is heart-tugging as these two young men struggle with their former, and current emotions and feelings for each other.
This is a novella which is included in some anthologies, and it is the opening chapter, so to speak, of the Brook Street series by the brilliant Ava March. Start the series with this one, and charge ahead!
